Responsible Firewood starts with knowing what is being offered: the species, the actual quantity, the batch condition, the delivery arrangement and any evidence behind moisture or certification wording.

Clear measurement
Why “bag”, “load” and “tonne” are not enough
There is no single universal Firewood bag or vehicle load. A builders’ bulk bag may be called a “tonne bag”, but that name describes its original handling purpose rather than a guaranteed tonne of logs or a standard Firewood volume. Loose logs settle into a smaller stacked space, and the result changes with log length, split size, fill level and how tightly the stack is built.
Weight also needs context. Water adds weight, so a tonne of wetter wood is not directly comparable with a tonne of drier wood. Wood may feel dry at the surface while a freshly split internal face gives a substantially different moisture reading.
In buying locally for the project, we have seen how phrases such as “a good load”, “seasoned” or “good local wood” can produce different results after stacking and testing. The purpose of this page is not to criticise an individual supplier; it is to explain why LWN will publish measured results instead of relying on vague units.

LWN calibration method
How the final figures will be established
- Fill
Use a representative launch bag and record its actual dimensions and fill level. - Stack
Empty and stack the logs normally, then measure length × height × depth. - Repeat
Test at least three representative bags and publish the average plus the observed range. - Test
Split representative logs and record moisture from freshly exposed internal faces.

Measure clearly
Metric loose or stacked volume is the customer-clear measure where available. “Cord-inspired” describes scale; it does not replace measurement.
Describe honestly
No kiln-dried or Ready to Burn claim is made without supporting evidence. Moisture information should identify the relevant batch and method.
Plan delivery
Access, unloading and storage affect a successful delivery. The reservation process captures those details before an order is confirmed.
Seasoning and storage
Keep air moving and rain off
Firewood dries best when split pieces are protected from persistent rain while air can move through the stack. Ground contact, tightly enclosed coverings and poor airflow slow the process.
Customers should prepare a stable, ventilated storage area before delivery. Burning suitability depends on the actual condition of the wood and the appliance requirements, not on a generic product label.
