Seasonal rule
The point is not to force a fixed calendar. The point is to combine reliable seasonal patterns with what the land is actually doing.
- Use monthly pages as checklists and prompts, not absolute instructions.
- Record frost, wind, standing water, access, soil cover, and what survived.
- Keep Wales notes honest and update them from real observations rather than staged history.
January
Observe water movement, shelter, access, frost pockets, stored materials, and dormant structure before making heavy interventions.
February
Plan seed orders, protected sowing, compost readiness, pruning, paths, and early undercover work when weather allows.
March
Begin practical spring setup: sowing, mulch checks, nursery organisation, slug observation, wind protection, and bed preparation.
April
Balance fast growth with unstable weather: hardening off, protected planting, water checks, and early pest prevention.
May
Use longer days carefully: transplant, mulch, observe dry spells, support biodiversity, and protect young growth from late cold or wind.
June
Maintain momentum with watering rhythm, succession sowing, composting, polytunnel ventilation, and habitat support.
July
Focus on harvest, moisture retention, shade, pests, pollinators, and recording what is thriving or struggling.
August
Preserve abundance, sow autumn crops, manage water, note disease pressure, and plan soil cover for the next season.

Shift from peak harvest toward storage, autumn sowing, seed saving, bed clearing, and winter protection.

Prepare for wet and wind: paths, drainage observation, mulch, compost bays, cover crops, and shelter checks.
